Phytosterol can be found in vegetable oils and seeds at low concentrations and a significant intake is needed to reach the levels required by the human body. CoroWise™ , a product manufactured by Cargill in the US, contains phytosterol extracted from natural seeds. It has no additives. The structure of phytosterol is similar to that of cholesterol, the difference being an additional ethyl on the 24th carbon. Phytosterol cannot be absorbed by the human metabolic system, but completely suppresses cholesterol absorption.
